Have you ever tried to help other people and do something thoughtful and kind, yet become discouraged, disheartened, or upset when the outcome didn’t turn out the way you expected? There are times throughout our lives, when may t to accomplish certain goals, overcome negative or hurtful situations, and fall short. It can become very dispiriting, demoralizing, or down-right depressing.
There are two things that a can do when they face a difficult circumstance: 1) dwell on the negative, become bitter, lose focus, and quit the things that they were trying to accomplish, or, 2) maintain a single-mindedness desire to accomplish a goal, dream, or to help others. What decision would you make?
A few days ago, I came the following little sonnet (Author Unknown) which I found to be a good source of encouragement to me. It is my wish that it will motivate you to stay positive and focused in your quest to make others happy and when you chase your dreams.
“Do It Anyway”
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered:
FORGIVE THEM ANYWAY.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish and ulterior motives:
BE KIND ANYWAY.
If you are successful, you will win false friends:
SUCCEED ANYWAY.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you:
BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight:
BUILD ANYWAY.
If you find serenity and happiness, others may be jealous:
BE HAPPY ANYWAY.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow:
DO GOOD ANYWAY.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough:
GIVE THE WORLD THE BEST YOU HAVE ANYWAY.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God:
IT WAS NEVER BETWEEN YOU AND THEM…ANYWAY.
Wow this is so good Coach. A lot of truth here. Wonderful inspiration. 🙏🏼

Twice in my career, I was called to my boss’s office b/c a colleague had registered a complaint about me. I wasn’t told of the reason for the meeting, so was shocked to see my colleague sitting there and to hear about the complaint. My boss played the role of mediator as the 3 of us sat there. Both times it was difficult for me b/c the intent in my actions was always pure. It wasn’t until I left the office with the colleague that she said to me, ‘OMG, you were trying to HELP me! No one has ever done that for me before.’ Two different colleagues, two different visits to my boss’s office with the same outcome. Because no one had ever reached out to these colleagues of mine before and tried to help them, they misunderstood my actions. It hasn’t stopped me from continuing to be as helpful as I can. I may not always do it the best way possible, but at least I have made the effort.

I try to think of this when I continue to give my sister and bro in law birthday and Christmas gifts for their children, and they never get anything for mine, year after year. So I do it unto Him, and do it anyway.
